Life Jacket Project

Life Jacket Loaner Program

Helping make life jackets readily available at public boat access points throughout the south chain of lakes.

The Life Jacket Loaner Program has been established across the state of Michigan. Its purpose is to provide accessible life jackets at publicly funded boat ramps, ensuring availability for individuals who may have forgotten or do not have the necessary equipment when launching their boats.

Often, individuals realize too late that they require such safety devices. The initiative to participate in this program was introduced by Marble Chain of Lake Association President Dennis Smith, who is passionate about safety due to losing a childhood friend in a drowning accident.

Dennis partnered with the Coldwater Lake Association to implement the program across the entire south chain of lakes. The project involved supplying materials for signage, installing the signs, and maintaining an ongoing supply of life jackets.

Each organization coordinated efforts and collaborated with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to secure approval for sign installation at each access point.

Community Safety Matters

We appreciate Dennis for proposing this valuable idea, as well as the local business operators and individuals whose contributions have helped make these safety assets available to our community. If this program can prevent even one tragic incident, the effort and investment will be well justified.

Removal Project

Canadian Goose Egg Removal Program

A coordinated spring program designed to support water quality throughout the Marble Chain of Lakes.

The Association will continue to collect Canadian goose eggs after obtaining a permit from the DNR and resolutions from all three townships while gaining permission from landowners.

The Michigan DNR provides an opportunity every spring that runs from the third week of March until the first week of May.

The DNR encourages this program to help with water quality and help to prevent waterborne diseases.

A Program Other Lakes Are Following

Our Association’s efforts have been so successful that the Coldwater Lake Association, the North Chain Association, Mattison Lake, and Rose Lake Association have adopted the same idea after seeing our results.
